House for a Musician is an experimental project, where the ‘rules’ of brutalist architecture were tested. The building is designed based on the definition of a New Brutalist building: memorability as an image, clear exhibition of structure, and valuation of materials.
During the concept development relationships between void and solid, vertical and horizontal objects in three-dimension were examined. A seemingly unstable structure expresses the realization of the unavoidable and fundamental presence of gravity. The interior features a combination of exposed concrete walls and the natural texture of wood flooring. Full height windows blur the boundary between nature and manmade, creating spaces filled with light and air.
